Celebrating the Sikh heritage and culture

Gurudwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib Takanini and Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand celebrated Sikh Children Day on October 3 and 4 in Auckland. More than 600 children took part in the two-day event that showcased the Sikh culture.

Children from Sikh Heritage School and all over New Zealand took part in various activities and religious competitions including Kavishri, Gatka, Dastar-bandi (turban tying), poetry, speech, Gurbani singing, Sikh art and essay writing.

On the second day of the event, sports competitions were organised that included race, kabaddi and football. All the activities took place at Gurudwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib in Takanini.

Parliamentarians including Dr Parmjeet Parmar and Mahesh Bindra graced the occasion with their presence, who also distributed free goodies and giveaways.

Children from as far as Hamilton, Te puke, Toranga and North Shore came to participate in the two-day heritage celebrations. The concluding event—Fun Day—will take place on October 10 at Rainbow Ends, Manukau.
