Scores celebrate Vijayathasami
Scores of people turned up at Stanhope Rd, Ellerslie, recently to mark Hindu Temple Society’s celebration of Vijayathasami.
 
Pooja at the programme was conducted in honour of Mata Saraswathy to celebrate Vijaydasami Dusserah - the 10th day is very auspicious and it is called Vijayathasami, since this day falls on the lunar day Thasami.
 
According to ancient history, kings prayed for nine days for their arms and ammunition before starting on their war journey. The 10th day they began the journey for conquest. The origin of this custom can also be traced to Ramayana where Lord Rama accumulated enough power to kill Ravana on the 10th day.
 
Small children were introduced to their first alphabet on this auspicious occasion by temple punditji. Abisekam also conducted to Lord Ganesha.
 
Temple secretary Ilango Krishnamoorthy thanked all the devotees to participate in this special occasion. Mahaprasad were served to all the devotees at the end of pooja.
