Auckland keenly awaits Sumitra’s Music Masti

Remember Sumitra Iyer – the singing sensation from Voice of India who was a top 10 contestant in the inaugural show?
Sumitra will be in Auckland next month to set the stage on fire in the Music Masti night at the Dorothy Winstone Centre on Saturday October 3.
Sumitra is a well-known Voice of India contestant and playback singer. She is an extremely versatile singer and fluently changes her voice while singing. She sang the parts of Asha Bhosle as well as Usha Uthup in the song I Love you from Hare Rama Hare Krishna during her audition and strongly made her mark as one of the strongest contestants to watch out for.
A charming, charismatic dynamic young and extremely talented IT professional, she decided to take on her passion for years as her main career stream and for once put the booming IT career on the back burner. As she took on the platform provided by Star Voice of India (SVOI), there a pleasant beaming confidence coupled with a marvellous voice, singing style of graceful versatility and a penchant to adapt her all the time to different styles. To her credit, she has the success in SVOI, where she came 5th; this provided her the stage and the exposure that was needed and has been doing solo live shows for over three hours, as well as with renowned artists like Sonu Nigam, Hariharan and Lesley Lewis.
As the name suggests, she is from the authentic South Indian family, who firmly believes in the importance of education and encouragement for the music. Being an Iyer, learning classical music was a very natural process and given the talent she was, that’s exactly what Sumitra’s parents did. She was well appreciated by her Guru Mrs Saroja. This was the beginning of her journey along with the rigors of the studies. She has successfully done her masters in the computer applications and then during her tenure as an IT professional, visited the US and the UK for work being the project leader for many projects.
Versatility is her forte; she has got the modern powerful voice, incredible voice modulation capabilities and gifted to sing in really low ranges. Apart from singing, she has a flair for mimicry. Put her on stage and ask her to mimic styles different actresses, different singers and rest assured the audience will be awed by her grasp of the nuances of those personalities. Today be it live shows, corporate events, film awards nights or reality shows Sumitra is everywhere. Her ambition is to excel in this very beautiful field of music and leave her mark as a versatile singer.
Ajay Atre is well known in Auckland as he is on his fifth visit for a performance and is the backbone of the show. He is known as the tech wizard in the field of music and a well known rhythm player who can play any kind of rhythm instrument ever made. He is also known as the Master of the R-70 Rhythm Machine, there is no one at present that has a mastery over this machine as he does. A very humble and sincere person by nature, he can compose and arrange very intricate rhythm parts for any kind of music as required. He has been a very important member of all live shows of playback singers and celebrities. He is a rhythm artist who can play the Rhythm Machine, Tumba, Dholak/Dholki, Tabla, Djembe and the pads simultaneously during a live show. An artist, most respected, talked about and constantly in demand for every musical event. He also has his own musical group wherein he has been doing a lot of corporate shows, multi star events in Pune and Mumbai. He has his own recording studio wherein a lot of the new and latest musical ideas are born and recorded by him. In short, a very versatile, tech savy, proficient rhythm artist, par excellence, he has no equals in his trade at the moment.
Mandar Deo has been playing the keyboard for the past 15 years and has accompanied almost all the singers/celebrities of today and yester years. He is most adept in playing anything on the spot without needing any rehearsals. Today he is one of the leading keyboard players who also does arranging, programming and composing. He has composed and arranged albums for Vaishali Samant, Avdhoot Gupte, Shibani Kashyap and is an intergral and important part of their live shows.
Both Ajay and Mandar have been performing with stars like Vaishali Samant, Avdhoot Gupte, Swapnil Bandodkar, Abhijit Sawant, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Amit Kumar, Sachin, the late O.P. Nayyar, Sudesh Bhosale, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadkar, Sadhana Sargam and Johnny Lever.
Ram Iyer of the Cultural Forum of India, has put together the show, marking its 25th event in the five years since it came into existence.
