Dhoni fails to take India across the line

A spirited NZ bowling attack lead by Neil Wagner beat India by 40 runs on the fourth day of the first Test at Eden Park.

Chasing 407 runs for victory, India were all out for 366 despite steady batting by Shikhar Dhawan (115) and Virat Kohli's 67.

Wagner took two key wickets in the post-lunch session to close the chapter for India. Wagner scalped Virat Kholi and Shikhar Dhawan and then took the wickets of Zaheer Khan (17) and skipper MS Dhoni (39).

A dramatic fourth day was on cards for spectators as India need 320 runs more to win the first Test against New Zealand after the homeside collapsed dramatically in their second innings at 105. India skipper MS Dhoni after the loss praised his bowlers though.

BlackCaps captain, Brendon McCullum, was adjudged the Man of the Match for his double century. He said that , "They (India) put us under immense amount of pressure. At 220 for 3 it wasn't looking that great, but we showed enough fight."
He added, "One of my best innings in an NZ shirt. A Test victory over this Indian team is no small achievement."
