Diabetes- your own self helps!!!

 

Over 20,00,000 new Zealanders have been diagnosed with diabetes and there is another estimation of 1,00,000 has diabetes that has never been diagnosed. “focusing on diabetes that is increasing around 10% each year in NZ, it is need of the hour to highlight it among all” said Nivedita Sharma Vij (NZ reg. Nutritionist and DSME coordinator A.D.H.B).

Diabetes awareness week was celebrated from 11th to 15th November to support the ‘World Diabetes Day’ that falls on 14th of November every year. The awareness week witnessed the empowerment of Diabetes Self Management Program or DSMP. How DSMP along with little confidence can help you to reduce the risk of serious effect of the disease and its related progressive complications.

The event also spoke about the various myths about diabetes and also related facts that every diabetic patient should be aware of.  Celebrating the ‘World Diabetes Day’ on 14th November, participants along with experts travelled a 10 miles walk that followed some really scenic and important historical spots in Auckland. The walk took around 4 hours to complete but participants were seen in great enthusiasm promoting awareness on ‘World Diabetes Day’.
