Black day for Brown

Auckland Mayor Len Brown admitted to having a two year “torrid” affair with Bevan Chuang, a 32 year old failed local board candidate. He came out with a statement mentioning how he “harmed, shamed and humiliated” his family and expected privacy from media. He returned to work as the mayor and has ruled out the possibility of resigning, saying it will be “business as usual”.
Len Brown was forced to come out with a statement after reports of his affair was made public by “Whale Oil”, a famous right of center Kiwi blog on social and political commentary by Cameron Slater. Slater however denied accusations that this outing was politically motivated, terming it as “absurd” in subsequent interviews. He also said that he got the news of this fling, before the elections, and he could have timed it for maximum damage if he had other motivations.
Miss Chuang was born in Hong Kong and is living in Auckland since 1996, and she completed her secondary education here. Her Local Elections 2013 profile said she had a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in anthropology from Auckland University, and a post-graduate Diploma in Museum Studies from Massey University.
She was a member of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel set up by Auckland Council, and was chair of the Asian Women and Family Trust. She was also on other Chinese community organisations and was a co-host on a Chinese radio network programme.
She claimed in the exclusive blog post, that Brown treated her with utmost disrespect and like a “pornstar”, giving raunchy details of their encounters. She also said that as a practicing Catholic, Brown was extremely hypocritical in his ways, and carried a “halo” of being a family oriented man which boosted his image before elections. Allegedly they had sexual encounters in Council house, and in Ngai Whatua room in Auckland Town Hall, which has special significance for the Maori.
Miss Chuang said that although she voted for Mr Brown, she believes that he needs to step down.
Miss Chuang has since then deleted her twitter handle @MissBChuang and her personal blog bevchuang.wordpress.com, although the cached pages of old entries can be still found online.
