Mahabodhi temple re-opens for public

The Mahabodhi temple in Bihar's Bodh Gaya town, which was rocked by ten serial blasts on Sunday, was re-opened for public on Monday evening, reports said.

Buddhist monks performed a special prayer in the temple on Monday.

The temple was re-opened for public after the one-hour prayer.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde earlier in the day said 13 bombs were planted in the Mahabodhi temple complex on Sunday.

He said 10 bombs exploded on Sunday which injured two people.

"Today, I have the information of 10 blasts," Shinde told reporters on Monday.

"A total of 13 bombs were placed there," he said.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said lessons should be learnt from Sunday's serial blasts at Mahabodhi temple so that such incidents can be prevented in future.

"We have taken the matter seriously. Lessons should be learnt for future," Kumar said while addressing a press conference in Patna on Monday.

"Nobody can claim that such incidents won't ever happen in the country," the Chief Minister said.

Kumar said he has urged the Centre to provide Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security cover to Bodh Gaya.

"We have asked the Centre to provide CISF security cover to Bodh Gaya. Until the CISF takes over security, the Bihar Police will protect the temple," he said.

The Bihar Police on Monday said they have detained a suspect in the serial blasts, which took place in and around the 1500-year-old Mahabodhi temple in Bihar's Bodh Gaya town on Sunday.

"We have detained Vinod Mistri. We are interrogating him regarding the blasts," said a senior police official on conditions of anonymity.

The Bihar Police also released the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of one of the blasts, which took place in and around the Mahabodhi temple.

The police said there were no security lapses at the temple.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday began its investigation into Sunday's serial blasts at the Mahabodhi temple in Bihar's Bodh Gaya town.
