Raksha Bandhan at Mahatma Gandhi Centre in August

The Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan will celebrated at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Auckland on Saturday, August 11.
The festival is organised by Hindu Organisations, Temples and Associations (HOTA). Hindu Swayamsewak Sangh is the host for this year. This festival is free to attend for general public (reservations compulsory).
Raksha Bandhan festival showcases traditional, classical and folk programmes in the form of song, dance, musical or an act. Similar to previous years, over 700 people are expected to attend the event and will be an excellent opportunity for passionate performers of classical, traditional and folk dances from any part of the world, to showcase their culture, tradition and stories through either dance, song or music.
Previous years have seen classical and traditional performers from Aotearoa (New Zealand); various states of India (Gujrat, Punjab, Mahrashtra, and various parts of South india); China; Japan; Middle East.
The festival is celebrated to mark veneration of womanhood and universal fellowship. The festival has a simple message that the world is one single family. Through sharing traditional parts from various parts of the world the event provides a 3 hour programme for general public, free of charge, in a smoke-free and alcohol-free family atmosphere.
Call For Artists:
This is a friendly call for all artists who would like to showcase the traditional, cultural or folk dance of their (or another) country. Artists interested in performing at the event are invited to contact the programme coordinator, Sundara Subbiah on 021 205 0347 or yessubbiah@gmail.com, Before 20th July. Temples and organisations looking to perform are also invited express interest.
Reservations:
The programme hosted by Hindu Swayamsewak Sangh, a not for profit – community service organisation, will be free to members of general public. Due to definite capacity of the hall however, entry will be through reservations.
