Groundbreaking for temple next month

Excitement is building up in the community as the Shri Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan of New Zealand prepares for the ground breaking ceremony of its first ever temple in the country.

The Sansthan purchased 1960sqm high roof warehouse on 2975sqm of land at 12-18 Princes St, Onehunga, Auckland, 10 years ago.

Now, the Sansthan is gearing up for Bhumi Puja on Saturday, February 4, 2012, to convert this into a community hall and the first temple of Shirdi Saibaba with other deities in New Zealand, Sansthan president Bhaskara Reddy Duvvuru said.

“Excitement is because of the fact that this was the day, all the devotees as a team would be taking one more step forward in the direction of building an “abode for our beloved Guru – Sadguru Shirdi Sainath, the day we were starting a process that fulfills the dream of all Shirdi Sai devotees of New Zealand and the day 10 years of devoted work by all the devotees was taking a shape.

“The Sansthan has planned to organise this auspicious function on the long weekend coinciding with the Waitangi Day (Feb 4-6), so that all the devotees can participate in the two-day event. The Sansthan will be performing four arathis and Abhishekam for Baba on Saturday, Feb 4.”

Ganesh/Navagraha Homam, Bhumi Puja will be performed on this day between 10am-12.30pm by Pundit Chandru Kurukkul of Papakura temple.

Guruji Shri Chandra Bhanu Satpathi ji blessed Bhaskara Reddy Duvvuru, and Rajiv Keth, EC member, when they met him in New Delhi in November and gave four silver coins of Baba, to be used in Bhumi Puja.

“Thanks to Dr Raghunatha Reddy, an ardent devotee of Baba based in Tirupathi, the Shanku to be used in the Bhumi Puja was specially carved by the Chief Stapathi of the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD), Tirupathi as per Agama Sasthras and was given to Bhaskara Reddy in India for stapana during the Bhumi Puja.”

Vishnu Yaag will be performed on Sunday, February 5, between 9am-12.30pm by Pundit Upendrabhai Joshi of Balmoral Temple. Arrangements are being made for about 200 couples to participate in the Yaag. Devotees may contact president/secretary to register the name for Vishnu Yaag.

Sansthan has launched the major donor scheme to raise funds for the project. The Sansthan is looking forward for 108 major donors contributing $10,001 each and the amount can be paid in installments; 108 small statues of Baba will be installed in the temple, representing 108 Asthothara Nama.

“Each statue will have an Asthothara Nama and the name of a major donor. We got 80 commitments till date and looking forward for another 28. Devotees in USA/Australia can become Major Donors by donating $7500 USD/AUD respectively, while devotees in India by transferring Rs3 lakhs.”

NZ tax residents can claim 33 per cent from IRD on all donations to the Sansthan.
