Auckland group promotes unity

A New Zealand group is leading initiatives to promote the main languages of India and Pakistan in a bid to foster unity between the two cultures.

The Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand Inc will be launched by National Party MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakhshi at a function in Auckland next week.

Next Saturday, November 12, Mr Bakshi will be at 54A Roberton Rd, in Avondale, at 2pm to kick off the promotion.

The main aim of this association is to promote the two main languages of India and Pakistan, association secretary Mujeeb Syed said.

“This association is promoting the Urdu and Hindi languages around the world,” Mr Syed said.

The patron of this association is the world renowned Urdu poet professor Dr Rais Alvi who has translated many Japanese books into Urdu and has received the Sahitya Academy Award from India.

Mr Syed said the association’s immediate project was to organise the Mushaira and Kavi Sammelan on one stage, inviting poets from all over the world.

Association president is Nafis Akhtar (Justice of Peace) and has many years’ experience in education. Secretary is Syed Mujeeb (senior journalist) of a popular Urdu newspaper, "The Siasat Daily” “TheHyderabad; India. Office Bearers are: Patron Dr Rais Alivi; national president Nafis Akhtar; national vice-president Roopa Suchdev; national vice-president Mujtaba Hussan Syed; national vice-president Mohammed Abdul Haq; national general secretary Syed Mujeeb; national joint secretary Muhammed Khalied Syed; national teasurer Shaik Shamsheeruddin; national joint teasurer Mohammed Naveed Ahmed.
