Indians slam Aussie radio host for anti-India remark

Sydney: The Council of Indian Australians Inc, a diaspora group in Oz, has taken strong exception to the recent remark of an Australian radio host who purportedly called India "a shit hole" and its holy river Ganges a "junkyard".
Australian radio station host Kyle Sandilands allegedly made the anti-India remarks in her programme "Kyle and Jacky O".
In a media statement, Council of Indian Australians Inc said the anti-India comments were made by Kyle Sandilands, who hosts “Kyle and Jacky O” show in 2Day FM in Sydney.
He made some insulting comments against India and ridiculed River Ganges which is a sacred river in Hinduism. His ridicule involved some of the practices of the followers of Hinduism, the Indian group said.
President of the Council, Dr Yadu Singh, said “I found Kyle’s comments to be insensitive, insulting, hurtful and unwarranted. When I heard them, I was upset and angered with them.”
Dr Singh said: “Indian Australian community is a peaceful and tolerant community. It does not attack any nation, national group or religious practices of any group. It is obviously not happy when others attack them or their belief system.”
The Council condemns Kyle Sandilands’ comments and has written to the Radio station, demanding an apology from the station and Mr Sandilands.
The Council said it will pursue this matter and will seek a satisfactory resolution, failing which the matter will be pursued with Australian Communication & Media Authority [ACMA].
The Council, along with vast number of Indian Australians and Indian ethnic media in Australia, especially Desi Kangaroos TV, will work together to achieve a satisfactory result, he said.
Alleged racial attacks on Indians in Australia had caused alarm in the past years and even the matter was taken up at the diplomatic level.
