Youth leaders needed to step up

This week is Youth Week, with a theme based around ‘stepping up and taking responsibility’.
St John is asking for volunteers to do just that – step up as a leader for the St John Youth community programme and take responsibility in encouraging the development of Youth cadets into friendly, fun and confident young adults.
St John Youth is growing rapidly, particularly in the Northern Region where membership has now reached 2435! The not-for-profit organisation is keen to find further volunteer leaders to assist in the running of some 60 divisions.
Leaders are provided with resources and ongoing training and support to enable them to run the Youth programme.
Says Regional Youth Manager Christine Benson: “Our volunteer youth leaders are vital to the success of the programme. We have many leaders who are doing a fantastic job and because our Youth numbers continue to grow we need more leaders to assist us.”
Youth leaders get on-going training with weekly meetings. Says St John Youth Projects Co-ordinator Shaun Greaves: “I really enjoy my role as a Youth leader. I have an opportunity to encourage the young people in my district and help them to learn awesome new skills.”
Youth members meet once a week for about an hour and a half – usually early in the evening – at their local St John Youth Division.
