Jimmy Shergill in Auckland

Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill will be in Auckland on Sunday for the premiere of his latest movie “Dharti”.

And later in the night, Jimmy will be found attending Auckland’s an evening bash at Galatos, in Galatos St, in Auckland City, organiser Dave Datt said.

Datt said Jimmy Shergill would be at Sylvia Park Cinemas at 8.30pm for the premiere of Dharti.

In the film, Jimmy plays an Air Force officer who finds himself involved in the politics of Punjab – his own “dharti”.

This isn’t the first time though that Jimmy has played an officer. In “Yahaan”, Jimmy played an Army officer while in his lesser known flick “Agnipankh”, he had played an Air Force officer.

“In ‘Agnipankh’ I had to shoot inside a MIG 21 and had spent time at air bases in Srinagar and Pune,” Jimmy told Flash News Today.

“So yes, I have had an experience of donning a uniform. Many folks get awed by the entire experience but for me I had already been through the drill before, ‘Dharti’ didn’t make me go like ‘Oh my god, na can’t conceal her excitement here.”

He plays a Squadron Leader in ‘Dharti’ but didn’t actually fly a Jaguar himself. In fact the shots of the flying Jaguar actually feature trained pilots while Jimmy’s close-up shots were used to complete the scene.

“Yes, what’s the point in claiming something if you haven’t done that. I didn’t actually fly a Jaguar but I liked the experience of sitting in it,” Jimmy said.

“There is a science behind all of it as well. How the cockpit opens, the way you buckle up and then there is this entire language used by officers as they get ready to fly Jaguars; it was pretty informative.”

For details, Datt can be contacted on 027 200 7368. Tickets are $15.
