Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary

The New Zealand Indian Central Association, its branches and associate members are organising the celebration of 150th birth anniversary of India’s great creative genius, Nobel Laureate, poet, novelist, musician, painter Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

An event has been planned for Saturday May 7, at Auckland’s Mahatma Gandhi Centre.
Tagore was perhaps the only litterateur who penned anthems of two countries –Jana Gana Mana, the Indian national anthem and Amar Shonar Bangla, the Bangladeshi national anthem.

Professor Sekhar Bandyopadhyay, Deputy Dean Humanities and Social Science faculty at Victoria University of Wellington will be the guest speaker on the occasion.

NZICA is hosting this event ably supported by Bangladesh Association and Probasee Bengali Association. Both associations are presenting cultural performances on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

The programme will be attended by various dignitaries including His Excellency Sureesh Mehta, High Commissioner of India in New Zealand.
