Women unite at colourful Holi celebrations in Flat Bush

The fervour of Holi and the spirit of International Women’s Day were celebrated at an event organised by Midlife Madness in Flat Bush on March 11, 2023.
At least 70 women from diverse communities turned up for stress-free bonding at Ormiston Activity Centre in south Auckland. Ranjita Sandhu founded Midlife Madness as a Facebook group that aims to empower women and focuses on their holistic development and wellbeing.
Colourful traditional umbrellas at the venue provided a perfect backdrop for the celebrations. One of the attendees, Balwinder Kohli, said, "It was so much fun. I had full masti. It was filled with boundless dance, games and, of course, loads of colour splashing around."
Another participant Daman Kang said, “It was indeed a great evening full of madness. I enjoyed being there with my amazing group of lovely ladies.”
Thanking everyone for being part of the event, Sandhu said, “What a memorable event and great fun we all had. Thank you all for coming and making this event a great success with your presence. The fun, the vibe and the energy were spectacular. The excitement and enthusiasm were doubled with two occasions being celebrated together.”
Midlife Madness took roots informally in September 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic. It aims to be a safe space supporting vulnerable and marginalised women in dealing with real-life challenges and breaking stereotypes. The online community endeavours to inspire women and bring them on a social platform to share their challenges and accomplishments and to have fun and enjoyment at the same time.
Sandhu said she was thrilled to see the turnout at the event. “This is our first event of the year, and we were thrilled to see the participation and enthusiasm of women. We are glad we can provide women with a platform where they can all come together to celebrate special occasions. As a platform for women, we will continue to bring events and celebrations for women. It was an awesome feeling to see the attendees having a blast.”
