Magicians, acrobats and musicians take over Christchurch city centre

The heart of Christchurch city has come alive with a horde of street performers from all over the world, including musicians, comedians, acrobats, magicians, and more. Bread & Circus World Buskers Festival, which runs from January 13 to 29, is an annual event back in 2023 after a year’s pandemic-induced hiatus.

The Festival in 2021 featured only NZ performers due to border closure.

One of the highlights of the Festival is the diversity of acts that can be seen. Performers have come from all over the world to showcase their talents, making for a truly international experience. The lineup features a mix of both established and up-and-coming performers, giving audiences a chance to discover new talent.

Buskers will perform outside the Te Pae convention centre, in front of the Bridge of Remembrance and in the Scott Statue park. While most of the shows will be outside, there are some fantastic ticketed shows as well including The Purple Rabbit, Silent Disco and Merric Watts: An Idiot’s Guide to Wine.

The street buskers include old favourites like Laser Kiwi, Pedro Tochas, Fraser Hooper, Kozo Kaos, Sport Suzie, Paul Klass, and Guinness World Record holder Space Cowboy.

The event is celebrating its 30th anniversary and is a unique and exciting way to spend a day out exploring the city and experiencing the vibrant culture of Christchurch.
