Noted Pakistani singer regales Auckland audience

The music lovers in Auckland were in for a treat as famous Pakistani singer Naseebo Lal recently performed in the city.

Lal, regarded globally as the second voice of Noor Jehan and the modern-day Melody Queen, gave a mesmerising performance non-stop for 2 hours at her concert, which took place at Dew Drop Events Centre on Friday (December 2’ 2022).

She debuted as a featured artist in Coke Studio's ninth season in 2016. However, it was in 2022 that she sang Tu Jhoom with legendary Pakistani Sufi singer Abida Parveen in Coke Studio's Season 14, which gained global acclaim.

She primarily sings in Saraiki, Punjabi, Urdu and Marwari languages. Reportedly, Lal’s ancestors were from the Indian state of Rajasthan, but after the partition of India, her family had to migrate to Pakistan.

The event was organised by Radio Sadeaala and saw around 500 people in attendance. The event started more than an hour later, but Lal’s energetic performance kept the vibe up.

The event's other highlights were an enjoyable comedy act by comedian Zafri Khan and Lal’s performance with her son Murad Hussain.

The attendees also couldn't stop appreciating Lal's performance on songs such as Tu Jhoom, Groove Mera and Mera Naina Vich, among others. Lal was dressed in a green sari and made sure that the audience had a great time. Some members of the audience even danced to her songs during the show.

Known community face and the Justice of Peace, Inderjeet Bajwa told Indian Weekender, "The show was well organised, and Naseebo has a melodious voice which was enjoyed by one and all. Her voice is capable of conquering every music lover’s heart. She seemed very down to earth and had no airs about her talent. I enjoyed her son's performance with her."

One of the guests, Yitesh Sharma, said, "It was a memorable musical night with living legend Naseebo Lal Ji and popular comedian Zafri Khan. What soulful singing…I thoroughly enjoyed the show."

Another guest, Loveleen Nijjar, said, "What an epic experience listening to the legendary Naseebo Lal ji - so basic yet so truthful, complete and divine. Thank you and congratulations to the organisers for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; for reconnecting us to our souls.”
