Unemployment rate holds steady at 3.3%, wages rise strongly - Stats NZ

Unemployment was unchanged at 3.3 percent in the three months ended September, while wages have risen strongly.

Stats NZ said there was a slight fall in the under-utilisation rate pointing to some slack in the labour market being used up.

The number of people in the workforce also increased to record levels.

One measure of wages showed an annual rise of 3.8 percent, near record levels, while another reflecting shop floor rates was matching inflation at 7.4 percent.

The strength of the numbers backs further aggressive rate rises by the Reserve Bank.
