Auckland is soon going to witness a unique music night. Titled Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi, the event will see talented singers paying a singing tribute to legendary choreographer Saroj Khan. Khan was the first woman choreographer in Bollywood and had a career spanning over forty years. Khan, who has choreographed more than 3000 songs, passed away on July 3 2020, of a sudden cardiac arrest.
The event is being organised by Vidya Teke, an artiste par excellence who runs the Arohi Academi of Music in Auckland. It will take place in Auckland on September 10 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre from 6:30 pm onward.
Every year Vidya, along with her husband Shekhar Teke, organises a Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi event based on different Bollywood themes to give classic entertainment to the Kiwi Indian community.
Vidya, the lead singer for the show, will be accompanied by other talented singers such as Ankita Ghatani, Rachit Bhatiya, Ravi Shetty, Shweta Shirsat, Hemant Shirsat and Arif Zia, among others for this sixth edition.
“Through our show Khamoshiyan Gun Gunane Lagi 6, we are going to give a tribute to legendary choreographer Saroj Khan. This is the first time that Auckland artists are giving a tribute to a choreographer for her legendary work in the industry. She was such a legend, and we thought it would be befitting to give tribute to her.
“But the tribute to Saroj Khan is incomplete without a few dances. So, there are a couple of dances along with the singing in the show,” reveals Vidya.
Even Aucklanders are looking forward to the show. Riyanka Sethi says, I am a die-hard fan of legendary Saroj Khan ji. I look forward to being part of this night that pays tribute to her great body of work."
