There have been 13,344 new community cases of Covid-19 reported in New Zealand today, and 23 further deaths.
The seven-day rolling average is now 8313, compared with 6422 a week ago.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said with the rising numbers, it was continuing to review its response to the current community outbreak of Covid-19 and would "adapt it as the outbreak and pandemic evolve, and as part of our resurgence planning".
There were 587 people in hospital, compared to 417 this time last week, with nine in intensive care. The average age of the people in hospital is now 66.
The 23 new deaths reported today include one person in their sixties; three in their seventies, 13 in their 80s, and six aged over 90. Nine were women and 14 were men.
Seven were from Auckland region, one each from Waikato, Lakes, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Tairawhiti, Whanganui and MidCentral, two were from the Wellington region, four were from Canterbury / West Coast, and two from Southern.
The Ministry said one of the deaths was from January last year and was now being reported after the cause of death assessment was completed.
"In some instances it can take some time for the full clinical assessments to be finalised."
The total number of deaths of people with Covid-19 in New Zealand is now 1651 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 16.
The Ministry said 390 of the new cases had recently travelled overseas.
There have now been more than 1.4 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand, with a total of 1,404,119 reported cases.
The increase in daily numbers over the past fortnight comes as Ministry of Health figures show Covid-19 reinfections are also on the rise.
About 14,000 New Zealanders are now known to have been infected with the virus twice, with 183 people having contracted it three times.
Yesterday saw 10,710 cases reported, and 15 deaths.
