Celebrating the mother-child connection

A recently held event in Auckland was a perfect amalgamation of fashion and glamour.
Organised by Dhanak Humayun, Sheethal Naidu and Deemi Maton, the free event –– Mum Off Duty 2022 –– was organised to celebrate the bond between mothers and kids.
The red carpet do, that took place at Rainbows Cafe in East Tamaki had mums walking the ramp with their kids in their fashionable best. The judges of the ramp show were beauty expert Bindu Grover, entrepreneur Bhavini Doshi and theatre artiste Rupal Solanki.
While Gagandeep Kaur won the winner trophy, Pooja More and Priya Malik were first and second runners up, respectively.
Gagandeep said, “I thought to participate and express my bond with my son Jaivin just like maa Yashodha and Krishna. Winning the title was special, and it will be a great memory of a lifetime for me.”
About 200 people attended this event, including Ms New Zealand Global Michaela, New Zealand Telugu Association President Anitha Mogilicharla and International Co-Ordinator Srilatha Magatala.
Talking about their experience, Anita said, “I am happy and proud to witness mums and kids’ efforts in dressing up. It was great to be part of this event which celebrated motherhood and fashion alike.”
One of the judges, Bindu, also seemed delighted and said, "It was an excellent initiative to give mothers a platform to fulfil their dreams of ramp walk on the red carpet with their biggest pride - their children. Having me as a judge for such an event was a very touching and proud moment.”
Rupal also shared the same sentiment and said, “I loved the concept, and it was a great effort put together to celebrate the beautiful bond between a mother and child.”
Dhanak of DH events said, “The idea of this event originated from a casual conversation between the organisers and strengthened and came live on Mother’s Day 2022 in such a beautiful form as we all three are mums ourselves. I couldn’t have been happier.”
