Indian High Commissioner Muktesh Pardeshi now accredited to Vanuatu as HC

India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Shri Muktesh Pardeshi, has been concurrently accredited the next High Commissioner of the Republic of Vanuatu.

This follows Shri Pardeshi’s accreditation to the New Zealand realm of the Cook Islands announced by the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs in November last year.

Shri Pardeshi now represents India in five countries – New Zealand, Samoa, Niue, the Cook Islands and Vanuatu.

While the first four countries are geographically placed in Polynesia, Vanuatu is in Melanesia and is a part of the Pacific Islands Forum grouping.

Shri Pardeshi has worked hard toward building and strengthening diplomatic relations across the Pacific Islands region. During his present tenure he also helped appoint a Honorary Consul of India in Samoa for the first ever time.

Speaking to Indian Weekender after the announcement, Shri Pardeshi said, "I'm pleased to be covering another country, the Republic of Vanuatu, a friendly fellow-Commonwealth nation. I look forward to working with the government and the civil society of Vanuatu to take relations with India to a higher level."

India has expanded diplomatic relations across almost all of the Pacific Islands region. While High Commissioner Pardeshi looks after five nations including NZ, the Indian mission in Fiji represents India in Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu and Kiribati. The mission in Philippines looks after Palau, and the ones in Papua New Guinea and Australia look after the Solomon Islands and Nauru respectively. India's mission in Japan represents India in the federated States of Micronesia.

A 1991-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service Shri Pardeshi has earlier served as Ambassador to Mexico.

He has been one of the most accessible and popular Indian envoys in New Zealand and has brought about many positive changes in the services rendered by the Indian High Commission in Wellington and through the Consulate in Auckland. He has brought in his considerable knowledge and experience in e-governance in the efficient delivery of consular services.

Prior to being the Ambassador in Mexico, Shri Pardeshi had played an instrumental role as Joint Secretary (Passport Seva Project) and Chief Passport Officer of India for about five years in the transformation of passport services in India. His leadership role has been widely acclaimed.

An alumnus of Delhi University, Shri Pardeshi holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts from Hindu College and Delhi School of Economics respectively (both with the first position in the University) before entering the diplomatic service in 1991.

In a diplomatic career spanning over 28 years, Shri Pardeshi has served in numerous postings in the Ministry and overseas stations around the world.

Shri Pardeshi has also served as Minister/Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of India in Jakarta (2007-10) and Deputy Secretary (South East Asia & Pacific) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
