Safety message from Police

As the holiday season swings into full gear, police have a message for members of all communities out enjoying the festive time.

Ethnic Officer Wells Albert, of Henderson Police Station’s Problem Solving Team, said it was essential for everyone to focus on preventing crime and crash “to avoid you being a victim of crime”.

Safe driving
“We are nearing the festive season so it’s important to keep safe,” Mr Albert said.
“Christmas and New Year season is a time to enjoy without any hindrance. If you drink then don't drive.

“Drink driving will result in serious crashes with injuries that can often cause death. Obey the traffic rules and speed limits. Parents, families and friends don't want to lose you.”

Family Violence
“Christmas is a time that we spend as a family together having good times, great food and giving gifts,” said Mr Albert.

“Problems are created when there are challenges in your life especially financial situations, anger problems, and any other issues.

“The problem doesn't go out if you take the anger out on others so calm down and see to tackle the problems to avoid being arrested for hitting your partner.

“NZ Police have a zero tolerance approach towards the family violence offences and will hold the offender accountable for their actions.”

Burglaries
“If you going away for holidays make sure you secure the doors and windows to protect your property. Ask your neighbour to clear out the mail in the letter box and to call the police if they see any suspicious activity in or around the property,” said Mr Albert.

“On behalf of Waitakere Police, I wish you a wonderful XMAS and a Happy New Year.”
