A 5.4 magnitude earthquake has struck 35km southwest of Taumarunui in the central North Island.
Geonet reported the event just before 11 am.
It was recorded at a depth of 207km and has been felt as far south as Christchurch.
It is unclear at this stage whether it caused damage or injuries.
