Covid-19 updates  Bloomfield On Auckland border, vaccination rates

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield says current modelling shows it will take Auckland just over a month before 90 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.

Just over 70 percent of the region is fully vaccinated now with close to 90 percent having had one dose.

Bloomfield says while 90 percent has always been the aim, it's by no means the end and there's plenty of opportunity for more people to get vaccinated.

He says case numbers are still going to go up and the only way to stabilise them is for people to adhere to the restrictions.

The Auckland border will need to remain in place until vaccination rates improve in other parts of the country as well, he says.

Bloomfield says people are tiring of the lockdown situation in Auckland, but there's a difference between small breaches and blatant flouting of the rules, such as the lockdown protest in Auckland.

Cabinet will today review the alert level three settings for Auckland, Northland and parts of Waikato.
