In a failed attempt to escape Auckland and enter Waikato, a man was discovered hiding in the boot of a car.
The car was checked at the Mercer checkpoint at 2.40 a.m. on Tuesday, planning to continue south out of Auckland.
The driver said he was travelling from Auckland to the Waikato region, but police later discovered this was not the case.
Infringement warnings were issued to both guys, who were 25 and 26 years old.
