Sudima Hotels New Zealand opened its new corporate office in downtown Auckland last week, bringing this fast growing hotel chain into the thick of things of New Zealand’s golden mile on Queen Street.
The chain has two major hotel properties in Christchurch and Rotorua and is finishing a third at Auckland Airport.
“The central location will help us better serve our growing clientele as we look forward to the completion of our new hotel at the Auckland Airport well in time for next year’s Rugby World Cup,” Sudima Hotels Chief Executive Officer Sudesh Jhunjhunwala told Indian Weekender during the inauguration.
The new 150-room hotel, to be known as Sudima Hotel Auckland Airport, will cost $30 million and will feature a ballroom opening to landscaped gardens, making it an all-season event venue. It will also have an all day restaurant, an elegant bar besides a host of other facilities. There will also be an inviting pool in lush surroundings and a gym with the latest fitness equipment.
The hotel is being built on one of the last freehold sites available along George Bolt Drive and will be one of the closest accommodation facilities to Auckland Airport, which was recently rated as the best airport in Australasia.
The hotel is expected to generate up to 150 new jobs and will incorporate the latest green initiatives. The chain already employs some 450 people around the country.
“We’ve seen rapid growth in the Auckland Airport precinct, with many corporations now making it their home.
The addition of a new quality 4 star hotel and conference centre is quite timely,” Mr Jhunjhunwala said.
Sudima also has hotels in Christchurch and its property in Rotorua is the largest hotel in the internationally famous tourist destination.
The September 4 Canterbury earthquake and continuing aftershocks had caused no damage to Sudima’s hotel at Christchurch Airport, Mr Jhunjhunwala said.
The chain is looking forward to the upcoming summer holiday season and is gearing up for next year’s big Rugby World Cup event.
Sudima’s new premises is on level 14 at 155 Queen Street in Auckland.
