Brown is Auckland Supercity's first mayor

Len Brown is the new Auckland Supercity’s first mayor.
In what was always touted as a neck-and-neck race for arguably the country’s second most powerful job, Manukau mayor Brown beat his nearest rival, Auckland City mayor John Banks by more than 60,000 votes.
Mr Brown projected a vision of a unified, tolerant and prosperous Auckland in his victory speech.
Mr Brown polled 221,000 votes compared with 161,000 for Mr Banks at the end of 95 percent of the votes being counted.
In third place, with 40,483 votes, was businessman Colin Craig.
Mr Brown addressed supporters and family at the Sorrento function venue at One Tree Hill after being called by an Electoral Returning Officer confirming that he had won the election.
Rival John Banks almost immediately after that called Mr Brown to congratulate him and assured him of 100 percent support, Mr Brown said.
