Covid-19: NZ govt to vaccinate all temporary visa holders currently in country

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that the New Zealand government will vaccinate all temporary visa holders currently onshore without any charge. 

Reportedly, there are 170,942 work visa holders currently onshore with another tens of thousands of visitor visas. 

"We will vaccinate each one present on the soil of this country including temporary visa holders," Ardern said. 

Ardern was speaking at 4 pm public health update from Wellington along with Director General Ashley Bloomfield soon after cabinet meeting giving further information about Valentine Day community case. 

Ardern announced that 60,000 vaccine doses (30,000 courses) of Pfizer vaccine have arrived in New Zealand at 9.30 am today. 

She made it clear that the border and frontline workers would be the first one to receive the doses of vaccine. 

Providing further updates she said that the vaccine will continue to arrive in the country in different batches/phases and will be undergoing further check by Med-safe before being made available for vaccination.
