5 new cases reported, four in MIQ and one in community

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield announced five new cases reported in New Zealand in the last 24 hours. 

Four of the cases reported are in managed isolation facilities and one in the community in Christchurch. 

The person reported in the community is a health worker reportedly picked up the infection from managed isolation facility at Sudima Airport Hotel in Christchurch, where the Russian crews were isolated. 

The health worker was tested on Thursday last week and returned a negative test, but developed symptoms on Saturday, and when tested on Sunday, reported positive with Covid-19 infection. 

She has been moved into a managed isolation facility. 

One household contact has been identified of the community case, a student from Cashmere School and has been asked to self isolate. 

The new imported cases are from Kabul, London and the USA. 

The first imported case arrived from Kabul via Dubai on October 19 and returned positive on Day 12. The second person came on October 21 from London via Doha, Brisbane and returned positive on Day 12 of testing.

The third and fourth person came from the USA on 29 October via Sydney, and Doha-Brisbane respectively, and returned positive on Day 3 of routine testing. 

11 more people have recovered in the last 24 hours and the active number of cases have dropped down to 75. 

Till date, NZ has had 1612 confirmed Covid cases as reported to WHO.

Minister of Health Chris Hipkins said the August's Auckland Community Cluster has now been closed. The cluster had a total of 179 confirmed cases, 2563 close contacts of the cases and 261,130 tests conducted.
