Big dance fest is here again

What? The 12th Annual Bollywood High School Dance Competition 2010 Countdown
Where? Logan Campbell Centre, Greenlane, Auckland
When? Saturday, August 21, 7pm
The much anticipated and awaited – the annual and original Bollywood High School Dance Competition is here again – the 12th year running.
This year’s theme is the fusion of Bollywood with Hollywood that will depict the assimilation of our Kiwi diversity through dance, music and arts.
The glitz, the glamour, the talent with heart-throbbing performers is all set to kick off with between 25 to 30 High Schools from all around North Island set to take part.
Last year’s winner Papatoetoe High School will try to make it two in a row while the first runner-up Kelston Boys High School and the third place-getter Manurewa High School will do their utmost best to turn the tables and take the crown.
The schools have been busy putting everything together and there appears to be an element of excitement, thrill and even secrecy as they are not willing to tell other competitors what they have up their sleeves. They have been preparing special costumes to suit their respective items and the set up. Rehearsals have been held continuously to reach the peak of performance that synchronises with the music and movements.
Each year schools are getting much more competent which makes it much harder for the judges and audience to judge as their performance goes up one notch higher... and judging gets harder and confusing.
To make judging easier some changes have been made this year.
Competition organiser Deepa explains the changes: “In order to make it more competitive for students, teachers, judges and the organizers, this year we have made the judging criteria much harder and changed our points system. We have made it to a 70 per cent private judging and 30 per cent public judging.
“Schools are all set and excited about these changes and are much more motivated and confident to deliver their best performance this year to take the crown,” said Deepa.
Binesh Sumer, the convenor of the programme, being a family oriented person himself with his daughters and sons giving a helping hand to make this a family affair. appreciates and promotes family values.
Families are assured of the tightest security at the venue which will also be a smoke-free and alcohol-free area for the function, said Binesh.
Food and non-alcoholic hot and cold beverages will be on sale at the function.
Therefore, make this a worthwhile evening for the whole family for a night out to a magnificent, thunderous and dazzling battle of the best in the Bollywood High School dance competition. Come on and witness the best of best in this 12th anniversary of the original Bollywood High School Competition.
