Seven new cases in community, and one recovery reported

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said there are seven new cases reported in the last 24-hours, all are in the community and none from overseas travellers.

There has been one new recovery and eight people in hospital, three in critical condition in ICU.

Of the seven reported today, two are linked to church and two household contacts. There are 2446 close contacts associated with the Auckland cluster, of which 160 are in quarantine facilities.

Dr Bloomfield said more than 1.8 million people, nearly 45 percent of the population aged 15 and over, have registered for the Covid tracer app.

There were 4444 tests conducted yesterday.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern extended Auckland's current Alert Level 3 settings until midnight, Sunday, August 30. Following that Sunday, Auckland and the rest of New Zealand will continue to remain at Alert Level 2.

Ardern said keeping New Zealand at level 2 is important because of regional travel - many people will want to enter and leave Auckland once it moves into level 2.

The total number active cases in the country is 129, of which 19 are imported and total cases in NZ till date is 1339.
