Hundreds at Guru Poornima

More than 1000 devotees turned out to offer prayers to Shirdi Sai Baba at the recent Guru Poornima celebrations in Auckland.

The Shirdi Saibaba Temple of New Zealand celebrated Guru Poornima on July 24 at Mahatma Gandhi Centre, Eden Terrace.

The event was successful and the temple committee had lots of appreciation and feedback from the well wishers and baba devotees.

The day started with Kakad Aarti at 6.30am followed by Ganapathi Homam (Havan). Pandit Chandru Kurukal of Papakura Ganesh Temple performed the homam and guided 35 families in performing the homam.

This was followed by a 200 odd devotees participated in Abhishekam to Baba. They have decorated baba with new shawl and garlanded baba’s statue.

At 10.30am Pandit Upendra Bhai Joshi of Bharatiya Mandir performed Sai Satya Katha (can also be called as Guru Pooja). Forty families performed the satya katha under the guidance of Pandit Upendra Bhai. All the devotees that have performed the Sai Satya Katha were delighted to receive Baba Statue to perform the pooja at their home everyday. The morning’s program was completed with Madhyan aarathi followed by Maha prasad.

Evening programme started with Dhoop Arathi at 5.30pm followed by melodious bhajans for more than one hour. The day’s highlight was Pallaki Seva (Palanquin procession), an emotional and sacred event that started around 7.15pm.

This went on for longer than expected time due to huge crowd of devotees wanting to be part of the procession. Temple committee and volunteers have done a fantastic job in managing the procession. The day has finished with Shej aarathi followed by maha prasad.
