Lockdown Day 29: Two new deaths reported today and three new cases

Director-General of Health confirmed two further deaths related to COVID-19 since yesterday. This brings NZ's total number of COVID-19 deaths to 16. 

One of the deaths was of a woman in her 60s in Dunedin. The second was a man in his 70s from Rosewood.

3 new cases have been reported, two confirmed and one probable but NZ total Covid-19 cases remain 1451. 

"Despite the three new cases, the total number of confirmed and probable Covid-19 cases remains at 1451," said Dr Bloomfield.

"There were three cases we reported yesterday who were confirmed cases off the Greg Mortimer ship, where people had been repatriated from Uruguay, however we understand that their original testing was done in Uruguay and we are checking with the authorities there as to whether they have already reported them to the WHO to make sure the World Health Organisation totals are accurate," Dr Bloomfield added. 

There were 6480 tests processed yesterday - there have been more than 101,200 tests so far.

A total of 1065 COVID-19 infected have recovered, 29 from yesterday. 

NZ Herald reported that woman died last night was fighting for her life at Dunedin Hospital for the last two weeks.

The first person to die from COVID-19 in Southland was a man in his 70s, Alister Peter Brookland, known as Barney who died at his home in Kingswell on Tuesday last week.
