What happens if your temporary visa to stay in New Zealand is expiring?

Immigration New Zealand has issued a new notice for people on temporary and limited visas in New Zealand. The New Zealand government has already barred international travellers to New Zealand as the travel restrictions came into effect on Thursday, March 19, last week.

Immigration website stated that temporary visa holders in New Zealand including work visa, student, visitor, interim and limited visa whose visas is expiring before Wednesday, April 1, 2020, and are unable to leave New Zealand must apply online for a new visa. An interim visa will be issued to them.

Travellers whose temporary visas are due to expire between April 1 and 9 July, will have their visas extended to late September. Those individual temporary visa holders will receive a confirmation on their extensions from Immigration New Zealand.

The new changes in immigration matters due to the Covid-19 epidemic comes in effect from Thursday, April 2, 2020.

Citing travel restrictions that came into effect last Thursday, only New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, residents with valid travel conditions and their immediate family (partner or spouse, legal guardian and dependent children under the age of 24) are allowed to come to New Zealand.

The immediate family must have a valid visa or NZeTA and travel with the New Zealand citizen or resident family member on the same flight to New Zealand.

Australian citizens and permanent residents who normally live in New Zealand can also return to New Zealand.

The government has also asked every individual arriving in New Zealand to isolate themselves for 14 days.
