World-renowned Sufi singer Saieen Zahoor to perform in Auckland

Sufi singers Saieen Zahoor and Afsana Khan are set to perform in Auckland on Saturday, March 7 at Vodafone Events Centre. The live-in-concert is organised by Flair n’ Fun Event management group (FNF).

FNF has successfully organised entertainment events for the last 30 years with its birth in 1987 in Pakistan by founder Mukhtiar Surhio and is currently run by and managed by his son Ali Surhio in Auckland.

FNF had organised two concerts in Auckland and Wellington for Pakistani pop and classical singer Sajjan Ali in 2018 and Family Gala Night featuring Shakeel Siddiqui and Naeem Abbas Rufi the same year.

The event is set to bring together Sufi music lovers under one roof to witness the ecstasy of Sufi poets and devotional Sufi music to the audience.

World-renowned Sufi singer Saieen Zahoor was nominated for the BBC World Music Awards in 2006 for his work based on word of mouth. The 87-year-old is a leading Sufi musician from Pakistan and has spent most of his life in Sufi shrines and was awarded by BBC even before he produced a record officially.

Some of his most noted albums are Allah Hoo Allah Hoo, Mirzya, Ni Mein Kamli Aan etc.

Sharing the stage with Saieen Zahoor will be Indian singer Afsana Khan who is renowned for her voice and rendition in folk music. Afsana Khan was awarded ‘The Folk Voice of Punjab Season 3’ and Rising Star of India in 2017.

Earlier in 2019, she released her song Lootera along with R Nait featuring singer and performer from Haryana, Sapna Chaudhary. Afsana Khan is the sister of singer and Indian Idol Season 9 finalist, Khuda Baksh.

“Although we have not yet publicised the show on social media, the show has already sold 100+ tickets just through word of mouth,” organiser of the concert Ali Surhio from FNF told The Indian Weekender.

“Our previous shows were a massive success, and the upcoming show featuring Saieen Zahoor is going to be one of the biggest Sufi music concerts in New Zealand.

Mr Surhio adds that this concert will bring good quality music, something different and mesmerising to the audience, especially when there is a huge appetite in the community for classical and Sufi music.

“Saieen Zahoor’s concerts in western countries have been a massive success in the past, westerners follow his style of music and are big fans of his work.

“Sufi music has a unique effect on its audience, its food for the soul and it brings people closer,” Mr Surhio added.

The poster launch ceremony of the concert was held on Wednesday, January 29 in Auckland that garnered a good response from the fans, supporters and sponsors.
