A group of community leaders, representing South Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, organized an interactive meeting with the Immigration Minister Hon Iain Lees-Galloway and the Minister of Ethnic Communities Hon Jenny Salesa on Tuesday, November 26.

Speaking to The Indian Weekender, spokesperson of the group, Sunny Kaushal said, “The meeting was organized to discuss the situation arisen by the changes made in the immigration policy affecting migrant communities from South Asia.”

The community leaders had briefed the Ministers on the financial, social and cultural costs suffered by the migrant community due to Immigration New Zealand’s actions and policies.

A Memorandum was also submitted to the Government with recommendations that included demands for setting up a consultation group representing South Asian countries and a request for regulating the discretionary powers of Immigration New Zealand officers and bringing more transparency in their decisions.
