Kiwi-Indian MP speaks at Telangana Jagruthi International Youth Leadership Conference

Kiwi-Indian MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi speaks on Gandhi, Youth and Sustainability: Perspectives from the World at Telangana Jagruthi International Youth Leadership Conference 2019, held in Hyderabad on Sunday, January 20.

Mr Bakshi is in India to participate in the biennial Pravasi Bhartiya Divas – the biggest conglomeration of the global Indian diaspora - as a guest of honour along with three other prominent Indian-origin global lawmakers.

On Sunday, January 20, Mr Bakshi spoke at the key youth event from the South Indian state – Telangana, sharing his wisdom on the development of youths and offering a Kiwi-Indian perspective in the international conference.

The conference was the first major international event hosted by the recently re-elected state government of Telangana and was organised by Telangana Jagruthi – the social-reform arm of the Telangana movement - that had led to the formation of the youngest state of India in 2014.

Founded in 2008, under the leadership and patronage of Kalvakuntla Kavitha, Telangana Jagruthi fosters a vision of uplifting the underprivileged sections of the society within the newly formed state, along with triggering a cultural renaissance and promoting a broad Telangana identity all around the world.

Engaging with the global diaspora is an important goal of the Telangana Jagruthi, with branches and office bearers in all major countries, including New Zealand, where Indian diaspora from Telangana state resides.

Speaking to The Indian Weekender the President of Telangana Jagruthi New Zealand, Aruna Jyothi Muddam expressed her delight on the fact that a Kiwi-Indian MP was able to attend and speak at the prestigious conference back in the state of Telangana.

“Telangana Jagruthi is committed for cultural renaissance, skill development, provision of healthcare services, educational development, environment protection and women rights.

“It is a great pride for us to see our Kiwi-Indian MP at the prominent International Youth Conference in our state where a huge gathering of members of diaspora is taking place,” Mrs Jyothi said.

It is important to note that currently a large number of the global Indian diaspora is flocking back in the country and building bridges to participate in the prestigious biennial Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (January 21-23).
