The four-day outdoor family camp will be held at YMCA Camp Adair in Hanua, Auckland where children from as young as eight years old can participate.
Sikh Youth NZ (SYNZ) is a youth-led charity that aims to educate, empower,
serve, and connect young Sikh New Zealanders, the wider Sikh community and the New Zealand public.
The goal of the camp is to develop an understanding of the Sikh religion, values and heritage amongst young Sikh New Zealanders, and to build leadership skills among them.
These camps have been supported by renowned international facilitators from Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, U.K., Australia and India.
Each camp is uniquely crafted around a specific Gurbani theme and catered for local New Zealand children and youth. The participants learn about Sikhism in interesting ways and delve deeper into their personal spiritual journeys. The sessions include history, kirtan, lectures and activities in a safe atmosphere of positivity and encouragement.
The theme for 2019 Summer Camp is ‘Shabad’ and the objective to ground oneself with the Sikh teachings and practices.
The summer camp also aims to teach young Sikhs leadership skills, empower the parents in guiding their children to make safe, positive and healthy life choices and to connect with the broader community and understand the importance of Sadh Sangat.
The facilitators for 2019 are Veer Davinder Singh from Thailand, L-Fresh The Lion (Sukhdeep Singh) from Australia, who is a world-renowned artist who does inspire live-shows and thought-provoking lyricism.
Registrations for the Summer Camp are open now, and one can contact SYNZ members Gurjot Singh at 022-4070235 and Amrita Kaur at 021-2346885 for any enquiries.
