Fun, comedy, entertainment at Tamil Association’s Diwali

Auckland Tamil Association kept its promise of celebrating Diwali festival in style, with the audience going on a laugh-riot on the acts of international artist Chinni Jayanth.

As promised in the promotions, Tamil comedian and star Chinni Jayanth gave a grand show at the 'Chill with Chinni' event organised by the Auckland Tamil Association on the occasion of Diwali celebrations on Saturday, November 17 at Freemans Bay Community Centre.

More than 200 members of the Tamil community visited the ticketed event to see stand-up comedy and mimicry acts of Chinni Jayanth, who is renowned for his performances in Tamil cinema and sharing the space with Tamil superstars like Rajinikanth,  Revathy, Vijay, Dhanush and Mohanlal.

Hon. Consul of Auckland Bhav Dhillon, National List MPs Kanwaljit Bakshi, Dr Parmjeet Parmar, Labour MPs Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Michael Wood, NZICA President Bhiku Bhana along with Jeet Suchdev and Nilima Venkat were present at the event.

The event started with a traditional Bharatanatyam dance performance followed by a dance show by local dance groups tapping their feet to both classical music and popular Kollywood numbers, to the delight of the audience.

The first part of the event was dedicated to formal ceremony including traditional lamp lighting, speeches by dignitaries, and special facilitation of Labour MP Michael Wood.

Subsequently, once comedian Chinni took to the stage with his impeccable comic timing, a laugh-riot ensued.

Meanwhile, continuing the long tradition at the Auckland Tamil Association Diwali events of acknowledging special achievements by members of Tamil community in the field of literature, academics, language and culture, this year special focus was laid on the area of sports, by awarding players of Auckland Tamil Badminton club, which has recently held a major tournament.
