Beauty pageant attracts 20

Twenty beauties have entered this weekend’s Miss India NZ 2009 pageant to be held in Auckland.
Organiser Dharmesh Parikh, of Rhythm House, said the stage was all set for another grand show at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre on Saturday, September 5.
Parikh said all preparations had gone to plan and they were looking forward to an evening of glitz and glamour where the winner will go on to represent New Zealand at the Miss India Worldwide pageant in Durban in March next year.
Tickets had sold beyond expectations, and they were geared for a full house, Parikh said.
This year’s contestants are: Asha Kumar, Dagny Rocha, Harita Gandhi, Jaymini Tank, Jumana Shakeer, Kirtin Alang, Mia Guria, Rupsha Bhattcharya, Sangeeta Selvaraj, Sheebu Singh, Shreya Gejji, Snehal Sinnarkar, Suchitra Venkat, Tasmeeta Patel, Varsha Donthi Reddy, Kiran Dhaliwal, Sirat Sodhi, Denisha Ramanandi, Prerna Sinha, Anshu Rattan.
The coveted crown was last year won by Jannat Kaur.
As in the past four years, this year’s hosts are Hemant Parikh and Neha of Radio Tarana.
As in the past seven pageants, well known international model and actor Colin Mathura-Jeffree, helped train the contestants and is one of the judges.
Mathura-Jeffree, also pageant director for Miss IndiaNZ 2009, is best known his recent role in New Zealand’s Next Top Model show on TV3.
