Knock-out King!

Rohit Singh is currently the World Boxing Federation Asia Pacific heavy weight champion, and the only Indian to have achieved this
How did you train yourself for this career? Tell us about the sacrifices you had to make and the tough times that you went through.
I started eating good following my full diet plan, training harder and also running a lot. I also got prepared mentally for my fights. I wake up early at 4am and go for a 10km run every day. Come back home after the run and start skipping, punching and cardio for about 2 hours. After a rest for an hour, I go to bodybuilding gym for 3 hours. Come back home to rest for 2 hours, then I start doing sparing for 15 rounds.
Altogether 7 hours a day is my daily routine of exercise, both boxing and bodybuilding. The preparations give me so much more confidence to engage in boxing. I try and train harder than people in the gym with me in general and I also make sure I learn something new every day.
How tough or easy has it been to get into mainstream boxing?
It was very tough, because there were no Indians into heavyweight division in boxing. There are Indians fighting, but in lightweights and not in heavyweight.
I'm the only Indian fighting in the heavyweight division in the world. So it was very tough especially in the boxing field where you have to be super fit to take other boxers around the world. I was 7 years old when I started training for judo, karate and taekwondo under Cheng Lee in Lautoka, Fiji.
After obtaining a 1st dan black belt at the age of 17, I went into competitions and achieved gold medals. I started training in boxing at the age of 20 and was a super heavyweight amateur champion of Fiji. I turned professional in the year 2000.
Till now I'm undefeated and the (WBF) World Boxing Federation Asia Pacific Heavyweight Champion and title holder. Recently, I won in Mexico in the 1st round by (K.O) Knockout.
Who is your role model?
My role models are Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Klitschko Brothers.
What is the next big thing you are aiming for?
I want to fight for WBC (World Boxing Council), WBA (World Boxing Association), WBO (World Boxing Organization). To fight any one of these title in America, I need a sponsorship of $15,000. By winning one of these titles I will be world recognized and after this I can fight for world title.
My goal is to fight Klitschko Brothers and win and become a world heavyweight boxing champion.
I'm very proud of myself as I’m the only Indian heavyweight boxing champion in the world. ‘You Believe It, You Achieve It’.
