Bollywood dance - for a good cause
A candid insight into the trials and tribulations of Bollywood dance competitions is revealed in a DVD recently released in Auckland.

The DVD, The Bollywood Dance, captures the journey of a group of fledgling dancers vying for fame in the dance competition at the Auckland Diwali Festival celebrations two years ago.

From their initial preparations to the final performance on stage at the Britomart, the DVD directed by Alex Liu offers an insight into why the Bollywood dances have entrenched a prominent position in the annual Diwali celebration calendar in Auckland.

This documentary follows the journey of the Hamara Pahechaan group – their ups and downs and why the “filmy” dances are so much part of the Indian psyche.

Headed by Auckland financial executive Anand Naidu, the group of dancers spends numerous hours perfecting their patterns, but in the end the crown goes to another group when the results are announced.

But the Hamara Pahechaan group is richer for the experience.

And now the DVD, put together by Naidu’s Mahayana Films and Top Ten Productions, is selling at $5 each to help raise funds for a good cause – half of the proceeds will go towards the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Naidu, a trained actor who was also producer for the DVD, said the disc was professionally compiled and would be of immense value to those appreciating music and dances.

And those who buy it would also be helping a good cause, Naidu said.
Those wishing to buy a copy ($5), please contact Naidu on 021 941522 or email anand@mahayanafilms.com or Raj on 021 030 3645 (raja.7@xtra.co.nz)
