Instrumental celebration
Amit Sengupta is at it again – having another musical show on the road next month.
This time it is a musical extravaganza with a difference.

Sengupta and his group of musicians and singers will feature in a night of instrumental fusion at the Bruce Mason Theatre, in Takapuna, on the North Shore, on October 17.

Titled Belated Fusion – Amit and Friends – the programme will feature a host of well known Indian artists from Auckland and also several non-Indian performers.

Headed by Sengupta, a veteran musician who is apt with the harmonium, the evening will feature sitar, clarinet, piano, piano accordion, saxophone, bass guitar, tabla, dholak and numerous other musical instruments.

Sengupta said the show would revolve around the four main compositions:
  1. The Dance of the Peacock;
  2. The Flight of the Deer;
  3. Graceful Swan;
  4. Motherhood.
A total of 12 players are expected to feature on the night.
Among them will be Sally Stockwell, who last featured in Sengupta’s Old is Gold 3 music night in May.

Sally, a well known Auckland actress, wowed the audience when sang an Indian number on Sengupta’s music at the May show.

This time she is expected to sing an English number, Sengupta said.
Other performers are: Basant Madhur, Satish Sharma, James Sneyd, Craig Denham, Chris Koole, Surbhi Sharma, Mark Mazengarbl, Sarah McLeod, John Ellis and Peter Paul.
The programme will be conducted in English.
