A Ramadan Message

A Ramadan Message

Assalamu Alaikkum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Barakathu

I am pleased to forward this message through Brother AlHaj Mohamed Iqbal, the Representative of the World Muslim Congress for New Zealand since 1972, on the special significance of the Holy Month of Ramadan to the Muslim community, Alhamdulillah living in ethnic harmony with all the other communities in New Zealand.

With New Zealand being a country where the Muslims are in minority as in my country of Sri Lanka, it is heartening to note that all facilities and independence to observe the fast is extended on this auspicious month which is also for all the Muslims in the world.

During my visit to your beautiful country almost 20 years ago on the invitation of the Muslims of Auckland in New Zealand, I observed with great interest the Muslims of Auckland working closely with the Masjids in developing their lifestyle in keeping to the
Islamic faith.

The Holy Month of Ramadan, which is one of the Pillars of Islam is thrust upon all Muslims with exceptions made for children underaged or those who are sick.

It is a sincere show of gratitude to Allah Almighty to fast on this month, an acknowledgement of all that has been and continues to be provided to us in the other eleven months of the year.

The Holy Month of Ramadan makes us more aware of the plights of others and directs us to share our wealth with less fortunate brothers and sisters. Our exercising generosity can be extended to the other communities when our faithful brothers and sisters are all fortunate and do not need to receive the compulsory charity Zakat.

Extending charity to those in need in other communities will result in the feeling of goodwill towards Islam and its faithful by brothers and sisters of other faiths. Zakat is given with no expectation of reward, yet we appreciate when given to those in need, irrespective of their faith, one benefit will be an increase in harmony and security to the Muslims living in predominantly non-Muslim areas.

I pray to Allah Almighty to guide us in the right path and to observe the fast piously, to do all good deeds and obtain the blessings showered upon us during this Holy Month of Ramadan.

Was Salaams
