A brotherly bond from beyond

A brotherly bond from beyond

Simple and serene, she radiates pure, unadulterated goodness.

That's the first impression you have of the unassuming and positively shy lady who is brimming with inner strength that would probably give the iron man a run for his money.

To say that she well illustrates what the Russian thinker Leo Tolstoy said, "We live for ourselves only when we live for others," would be putting it mildly. Without doubt, Ashish Mehta is the kind of person you think of when the times are tough and the chips are down. Through the years that I've known her, I've watched her help the weary and confused, the old and defeated in the rat race we call life. She, with her wisdom and benign smile has been able to guide many a lost traveller and put back the skip in their step and a song in their heart.

This incredible journey for Ashish has not been an easy one, though. Had it not been for her brother's accidental death, that pushed her to search for answers, Ashish Mehta would have never got into auto-writing.

For the uninitiated, auto writing is about connecting with the higher souls on a different plane as they guide you through the rough times and gently enlighten you about the larger picture. Though this may sound like mumbo-jumbo to some, the fact remains that the words and verse that come through auto-writing are very evolved and the vocabulary is quite different from what Ashish uses in everyday life.

It was her brother Freddie’s sudden death that opened the doors to the higher spirit world that she regularly communicates with – a pen and paper. And that’s just the beginning of an incredible odyssey that this loving wife and doting mother of two lovely kids, began in the land of the long white cloud.

Ashish often says that it is pain and conflict, the road blocks and the speed breakers that give us a tremendous opportunity for growth as it teaches us how to become more skilled at manoeuvring the steep curves of life. It helps one to brave the storms and the avalanches that sometimes throw us off balance, and come out a stronger person.

This is how it all began (in Ashish’s own words) …

"My brother, who had settled in New Zealand with his family, was keen that we should join them too. At that time we were in two minds when it came to such a big life changing decision of moving from Mumbai to Auckland.

“Then one night, six months before my brother Freddie’s fatal car accident, I had this terrifying dream. I can picture it clearly even now. Freddie – who was a shippee – and I are standing at the edge of a ship, which is anchored very close to a dock. Suddenly, he dives into the water. But instead of landing on the surf, he hits his head against a sharp, protruding rock. The next moment I see his body float with his face up. I jump to the shore and go toward him…

“Much as I was disturbed by this dream, I didn't tell my brother about it. He had just moved house and was really happy. Life was going just the way he wanted it to.

“Months later, Freddie was driving from his new home in New Plymouth to Auckland and his car skidded. He hit his head at the sharp edge of the road and died on the spot.

“My worst nightmare had come true. When I first got the terrible news I was shocked beyond words. The pain was just too much to handle. I couldn't forgive myself for not telling my brother about the haunting dream so that he could have been more cautious.

“The fourth day after his death, a strange thing happened at the prayer ceremony. I had this strong vibration that enveloped me as my right hand started shaking violently. I kept hearing, 'I'll be in touch. I'll write. I'll write.'

“Except, at that time I didn't know how. Though I have always been inclined toward the spiritual, I had never dabbled with the paranormal. Yes, I used to do spiritual healing in Mumbai with the guidance of a lady I knew for many years. Finally, nine months later, she agreed to give me a link to connect with the cosmic forces in another sphere.

“That day my life changed. It was like the final awakening. It began with being attuned after a prayer and meditation. I apprehensively held my pen to the blank paper. Initially it seemed like I was drawing circles. Sometimes the hand moved slowly and sometimes it furiously swished across the page. Gradually, after several days, the messages began to crystallise. Normally, in auto writing the words are all joined together. There are no gaps or spaces.

“There is so much knowledge that needs to be shared; many lessons that need to be learned. To make real progress we need to focus not only on material wealth but spiritual wealth as well. Our body is just an empty shell that we will discard when we pass over to the other realm. But our spirit lives on. That’s why the core essence of the soul is so much more important than the body. If we work toward spiritual progress and work without any expectation, we can cut short the wheel of coming and going endlessly on this earth. We need to remember that it’s the spiritual realm that is our real home.

“I have been getting these messages for the last ten years from souls who love to help people who seek them out. Their advice and teachings are invaluable. This has enabled me to help people with problems who are searching for the right answers. The spiritual guides that I am in touch with are the higher forces who are the co-workers of the lord. It is they who have told me to write everything they’ve said and spread the message of love and light. That's why I have transcribed lots of messages over the last ten years and hope to compile it in a book and publish it some day.

“Of course, I do miss my brother but at the same time I know that his mission on earth was to spend only forty-two years and then to move on to other realms.

“On every Thursday we have a spiritual gathering at my home where I read some letters from the masters and we do some meditation and healing. What's even more fascinating is that a lot of their thoughts are transmitted in the form of verse, prayer and sometimes even in a sketch. Most of the times it's sheer poetry as my pen just flows with the rhythm.

“I know a lot of people may find this difficult to digest but the fact remains that each one of us is a spirit form that moves on to other realms that do exist in this universe. Though the higher souls have not revealed their identity to me as yet, they've said that one day they will manifest themselves.’’
