Local talent set the stage on fire at Indi King 2013

Local talent set the stage on fire at Indi King 2013

It’s here again. The 6th Indi King dance competition will be held in Auckland on February 9.

Conceived by local dance enthusiast Yogesh Gounder, the Indi King is a Bollywood male dance comp that has set a unqiue and professional platform in New Zealand where the male gender is recognised for their dance ability.

Yogesh created a secondary concept last year to further expand his passion for dance and stage performance. Dance2 will present its second edition, also on the night. This competition boasts the tagline: The Power of Two. It is a duo dance competition that is open to any dance form and music genre.  Duos can be of same or different gender, i.e male/female or male/male or female/female. "I love that Yogesh has designed another unique concept where it is not restrictive to the talent our local communities have,” event manager Mumta Gounder told Indian Weekender.

“Our youth have the opportunity to perform on a glamorous platform at a glamorous event centre, for some, a chance of a lifetime.”
Mumta said both competitions had been designed fairly so that participants had an opportunity to invite their friends and family to “not only come and enjoy a family event but also vote for the dancer(s) they support”. Fifty per cent of this vote goes towards deciding the winner.
The remaining 50 per cent is derived from the marking guide completed by the three loyal and professional judges - Viraf Todywalla, Gina T and Kunaal.

Mumta also said they were proud that all three of their judges performed unique and entertaining numbers, and that they had a high level of understanding and knowledge of dances.

Manish, DJ Gabbroo of Radio Tarana, is also a long-standing guest artist, signer/dancer at the event and is always popular in re-energising the audience after the interval break.

The host of the event, Dinesh Sami, said: “This year (2013) the contestant line-up is set to dazzle you all when it comes to talent and stage presence. Everyone is working so hard to perfect and polish their acts - this is a must-see event.”
* Indi King will be held at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre – pre-sales are only $15 per person. Children under-5 are free. Contact 021 0469 844 for delivery or pick-up options.
