Chinese leader praises Fiji on its progress

FIJI is prospering under the leadership of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, says chairman of the Standing Committee of the Nationals People’s Congress of China, Wu Bangguo.
“I can see the whole country is prosperous and thriving under the leadership of the Prime Minister,” he said.
“We feel heartily rejoiced at your achievements and we are confident that under the leadership of Mr Prime Minister you will score new success.”
Wu made this comment following an elaborate welcome ceremony by the Fijian Government at Sheraton in Denarau this week. Present at the ceremony were Cabinet Ministers, top ranking officers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and senior Chinese officials.
“We appreciate the traditional culture of Fiji and more importantly the friendly sentiments of the Prime Minister and the Fijian people towards the Chinese people,” Wu said.
He acknowledged the good relations that Fiji and China share and he hoped that his visit would further deepen the older cooperation between the two sides. “This is my first visit to Fiji and I am fascinated with the blues skies, blue sea and the scenery.”
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama reciprocated the generous words of the Chinese leader and called China one of the most prominent of the great nations that Fiji is reaching out to in Asia as part of the “Look North Policy”.
“The People’s Republic of China understands how life in Fiji is improving, and is generously investing in our programme to grow the Fijian economy and provide sustained livelihoods for all Fijians,” he said.
Wu also met the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, later in the week.
