Suva: Having fulfilled his dream of making it in Bollywood with the launch of his debut pop album Meri Deewangi in March, the Fiji-born singer is showing remarkable staying power on the Indian charts, among the industry's best and brightest.
Sumeet’s eight track album has now been on Times of India and Radio Mirchi's Indipop Top 10 Charts for 24 consecutive weeks. Not to be confused with Fiji Broadcasting Commission's station of the same name, the Indian Radio Mirchi is the largest radio station in India and its prestigious Top 10 charts get published in the Times of India (Asia's largest newspaper) every Monday. Sumeet's album is in heavy rotation on Radio Mirchi, getting regular play in Mumbai, India's music and movie capital.
Meri Deewangi peaked at #2 in May. Sumeet’s title track currently sits at #8 in its 24th week on the Indipop Top 10 chart alongside other top Bollywood singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at #2, Shibani Kashyap at #7 and Mohit Chauhan at #9.
In Bollywood, Sumeet is signed to Eros Entertainment, one of Bollywood’s largest film companies. Released by Eros, his album of mostly romantic ballads also features a dance mix of the title track, produced by London based artists Priest J (aka Suj Joshi) and Patrick McMahon, who have worked with the likes of Rihanna and Black Eyed Peas.
It is the title track “Jabse mili tujhse nazar” which has captured the hearts of music lovers worldwide. The album features deep, meaningful and contemporary poetry in simple to understand language. The eight ballads, incorporating a wide variety of moods which create a nostalgic feel for music lovers, was created by Bollywood music director Deepak Pandit backed by leading lyricists and musicians.
The music video of the album, which can be viewed by music lovers on You Tube, sets out to achieve a surreal world created with the use of VFX and high-end graphics. It features upcoming actress Anjali Pandey alongside Sumeet.
Meri Deewangi is available in music stores worldwide.
