Fiji Tourism lauds Sumeet’s achievement

Suva: Sumeet Tappoo’s success as a singer in Bollywood is expected to pay huge dividends to his homeland of Fiji.

“Sumeet’s success in India will contribute significantly to increasing Fiji’s visibility in the music and film industry there; thereby showcasing the best of local talent that we have here,” says Florence Swamy, Acting CEO of Fiji Audio Visual Commission.

FAVC has been selling the idea of Fiji as a major filmmaking destination for both Mumbai’s Bollywood and Hollywood with the quaintly-named Bulawood, the Hollywood of the South Pacific.

Sumeet has hit number two in India’s Top 10 music chart (published by the Times of India) with the title track from his album Meri Deewangi. It entered the Planet M Indian Charts at number nine, the Rhythm House Charts at number three, the Mirchi Charts at number nine and the Bollywood Online Charts at number six.

The success the Fiji-born singer was important to the FAVC – “As we try to attract productions from India to Fiji, it is imperative that we have the appropriate services, infrastructure and suitably trained cast and crew locally to support these productions. Sumeet exemplifies this and is a great emissary for us in this sense,” says Ms Swamy.

“Tourism Fiji salutes Mr Tappoo for this achievement and we are hoping that his performance will create interest in the destination and hopefully in the not too distant future more Indians will visit Sumeet’s country of birth,” says Tourism Fiji’s CEO Josefa Tuamoto. “We are all proud of Sumeet’s achievement. He has done extremely well to be in the #2 position in a very competitive music industry like India.”

“The response to the album has far exceeded my initial expectation,” says Sumeet. “I had wanted it to be liked by music lovers all over the world, and it is. But to have the added bonus of hitting #2 in the top ten charts, that is icing on the cake.”

The music video of the title track of Sumeet’s album has also become a huge hit with music lovers across the world. The video features upcoming actress Anjali Pandey alongside Sumeet in a stunning music video created and produced by talented director Cunal Ranjan who has created a surreal world with the use of VFX and high- end graphics. The video can be viewed on You-Tube on the internet.

Meri Deewangi features eight romantic tracks which have been composed by Music Director Deepak Pandit, with Music arrangement by Hira Pandit and Dhiren Raichura, and backed by well-known musicians from within the industry.
